After so much meticulous planning, the SB Motorsport team have pulled off event that writes itself into the history books. For the first time its history, a drifting competition took place at the legendary Goodwood Motor Circuit.
Where else are you going to see such a tranquil countryside estate taken over by action sports, from the spectacle of the UK and Irish drifters battling it out, to Freestyle Motorcross Show (FMX) displays flying through the air?
And with a Show & Shine display, drift passenger rides, RC drifting, Crazy Carts and a pump track? This was a weekend for everyone.
Initiate Show is the first of its kind at the Goodwood Motor Circuit, we love to see it. History made right here, top drivers from the UK and Ireland took to the stage to battle it out on a tight and technical layout, while the pit lane lawn played host to epic jaw dropping Freestyle Motorcross!
We had some mega cars on our stand in the Initiate Retail Village, Charlotte’s PS13 and Chris’ BTCC Nissan Primera Wagon hiding an SR20, while our very own Andy’s GT86 joined the line up with Garage of Luke’s cute MX-5 ‘Kurt’. The stand was busy from start to finish, with so many visitors checking out the cars, tyres on display, merchandise and of course, having a good ol’ chin wag with the team.
200 Accelera 651 Sport tyres arrived at Goodwood, the 651 being the controlled tyre for Initiate, offered drivers consistency, precision, performance – and smoke - with their runs while levelling the playing field to bring such close battles!
The day saw Jack Shanahan take P1, Ryan Hughes P2 and Martin Richards P3 – but the biggest win is for the drifting community. We came together, smoked the tyres, had a laugh and had the best time out.
We had a catch up with the man behind Initiate, SB Motorsport’s own Baggsy to hear his thoughts on how the event went.
"Making history at Goodwood Motor Circuit with the first-ever drift competition and Freestyle Motocross was something I’ll never forget. We were blown away by the response; 6,500 people showed up, and the atmosphere was unreal. Huge thanks to Tire Streets for backing the vision and helping take drifting to such an iconic venue, and for being the official tyre partner of the event. It was years in the making, and we’re super proud to finally get it off the ground with the amazing staff at Goodwood."
A huge well done to them, massive respect for making such an epic event in the 2025 calendar for everyone to enjoy, kudos to all the drivers involved with the drifting, yelling shake & bake before entering the track must’ve helped.
